Visalia inflicts early damage, routs Blaze

Mark Reed went 3-for-5 with three RBIs as the Visalia Rawhide pounded the Bakersfield Blaze 10-2 on Wednesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Reed was a home run shy of a cycle. He hit a two-run triple, double and RBI single.

Visalia jumped on Blaze staring pitcher J.C. Sulbaran for five runs in the first inning. The Rawhide had five hits and Sulbaran had two wild pitches in the frame.

Keon Broxton hit a solo homer in the second inning as Visalia scored two runs to build a 7-0 lead and chased Sulbaran.

Eric Smith (4-11) scattered seven hits over seven innings for Visalia. He allowed two runs, walked four and struck out two.

Sulbaran (8-5) was tagged for six earned runs on seven hits.

The Blaze will begin a four-game series at 7:45 p.m. today against Lake Elsinore.
