Finally, early season baseball and softball games are set for Bakersfield College tonight.
The school will officially dedicate the Dean and Adah Gay Sports Complex today at 5:30 p.m.
The complex features the Renegade baseball and softball playing facilities.
Construction delays a year ago prevented the Renegade baseball team from playing a home game until late last season. The BC softball team never had an on-campus game last season since its portion of the complex wasn't completed until late last summer.
But now both programs boast what school officials are calling one of the premier community college baseball and softball complexes in the state.
The dedication ceremony for the new facility will feature a ribbon cutting and comments from Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall. BC President Greg Chamberlain, softball coach Sandi Taylor, baseball coach Tim Painton, David Gay (representing the late Dean and Adah Gay) and the Renegade baseball and softball teams will be in attendance.
After the dedication ceremony, BC's softball and baseball teams will play their season openers. In celebration of the grand opening, admission will be free to both games.
The BC baseball team will play host to Irvine Valley College at 7:30 p.m. The softball team will play host to Fresno City College at 7 p.m.
The approximate $1.7 million renovation of the baseball and softball fields featured the installation of chair-back seating and the addition of disabled access routes to the seating areas of both fields. Fan seating, press boxes and dugouts were also renovated.
