Morel garners Carolina League award

Centennial graduate Brent Morel was named a Carolina League All-Star at third base, where he has been the cornerstone of the Winston Salem Dash offense and defense.
A former third round pick of the Chicago White Sox in the 2008 draft, Morel is in just his second professional season.
Morel finished with a .280 average with 15 home runs, 72 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
The Bakersfield product ranked in the Carolina League's top 10 in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.280, 9th), (128 hits, 4th) and runs scored (79, 3rd). Morel also led the league defensively at third base, sporting a .970 fielding percentage with only 10 errors in 331 total chances.
CSUB volleyball
After posting a pair of comeback wins earlier in the season, the Roadrunners let one slip through their fingers Saturday, surrendering a 2-0 lead to Nevada in a 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-5 loss to the Wolfpack at the Stockton Hilton Invitational.
CSUB (7-8 overall) got a career-high 27 kills from sophomore outside hitter Lindy DeGeare, accounting for nearly half of the team's 58 kills. Senior setter Barbie Unfried chipped in 46 assists, 15 digs and three aces while libero Kayla Williamson had 29 digs.
CSUB cross country
RIVERSIDE Junior Casey Glassey was the Roadrunners' top finisher Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational. Glassey finished in 90th place in the highly competitive 5K race, completing the course in 18:37.1.
CSUB will host the Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday. The men's race will start at 9 a.m. and the women's race will begin at 10 a.m.
JC volleyball
SAN DIEGO Bakesfield College went 2-2 at the San Diego Mesa Tournament over the weekend.
The Renegades (4-3) lost to Delta Valley (21-25, 22-25, 20-25) and College of the Canyons (21-25, 23-25, 25-11, 21-25) and defeated Riverside (25-19, 28-30, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12) and Cerritos (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-12).
Leaders for Bakersfield included Reisa Fessler with 67 kills, Brookey Holmes with 53 kills, Sarah Kurfess with 151 digs and Chelsea Rose with 138 assists.
