Nov. 10 Local college roundup: BC women advance to state golf tourney

CHINO HILLS -- Bakersfield College placed second at the Women's Southern California Golf Championships Tuesday, earning the program's first-ever spot in the four-team state tournament.
BC and SoCal winner Palomar advance to the state meet, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday at Kings Country Club in Hanford.
BC's previous best finish was third in the SoCal tournament in 2002.
BC had a 656 team score after rounds of 330 and 326 at the par-72 Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. Palomar won with a 632.
Dee Ray led BC at 16-over-par 160 (81-79) for fifth place, which earned her an all-regional berth. Palomar's Beth Sellers won with a 3-over 147.
BC's other finishers: Katherine James (78-87--165) and Stacie Netzer (87-78--165), who tied for 10th; Ellen Krausse (84-82--166, 13th); and Vivian Davis (92-101--193, 41st).
BC women's soccer team earns big win over Pierce
WOODLAND HILLS -- Bakersfield College held off a furious comeback by L.A. Pierce College to post a 3-2 women's soccer win, Pierce's first Western State Conference loss of the season.
BC (10-7-2, 8-3-2 WSC South) led 2-0 at halftime behind goals by Terryn Soelberg and Amber Beckham. Soelberg added another goal to make it 3-0 before Pierce scored twice in the final 10 minutes.
Pierce (16-2-1, 12-1 WSC South) is ranked No. 2 in SoCal.
BC goalkeeper Taryn Wilson had five saves, three in the final 10 minutes. Wilson also had a save in a one-on-one situation in the first half to keep the match scoreless at the time.
Beckham, Molly Haugen and Brittany Hunt had assists for BC.
The Renegades close the regular season Friday at home against College of the Canyons.
CSUB baseball scrimmages set
The CSUB baseball team will close out its fall practice this week with a three-game Blue/Gray intersquad series.
Today's first game begins at noon on Hardt Field with Mike McCarthy and Mickey Jannis the starting pitchers.
The second game will be Friday at 1 p.m. with the series concluding Saturday at noon. All three games are open to the public free of charge.
