VENTURA -- After scoring at least 100 points in its first two games, the Bakersfield College men's basketball team couldn't find the extra gear in a 81-77 loss to L.A. Valley in the Ventura College Tournament championship Sunday.
Bobby Fisher scored a game-high 22 points for the Renegades (2-1), who held a 13-point lead during the first half. But the Monarchs (3-0) trimmed the deficit to 43-42 at halftime and controlled the second half.
"We've been very good offensivley; we weren't quite there," BC coach Rich Hughes said. "We gave up way too many layups; we didn't play a lot of defense (Sunday)."
Skyler Vaden was the only other 'Gade in double figures, scoring 15 points.
CSUB VOLLEYBALL
San Diego State made quick work of short-handed CSUB, rolling to a 25-12, 25-22, 25-17 win at SDSU. Lindy DeGeare, the Roadrunners' most prolific attacker, played in just two sets due to illness and recorded a season-low six kills for CSUB(12-16). Alysia Baker led CSUB with seven kills. The Aztecs improved to 13-13.
