Gouk's 2 goals lead CSUB past UNLV

LAS VEGAS -- Robbie Gouk scored a pair of second half goals, leading the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over UNLV on Friday.

The Roadrunners (6-3-2, 1-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) are unbeaten in their last six matches. The Rebels dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 0-1 in MPSF play.

Evan Fassler put CSUB on the board in the opening minute of play, launching a ball from 30 yards out into the top left corner of the net. The 1-0 lead stood for the remainder of the half.

Gouk's first strike came 10 minutes into play in the second half. Following a Rebel foul, Gouk took the free kick from 35 yards out and blasted it into the upper left corner of the net, giving CSUB a 2-0 advantage.

UNLV's Andrew Friel scored in the 57th minute to cut the lead to 1. But Gouk put the game away in the 79th minute, scoring on a header off of a free kick by Matt Shaxton.

Women's soccer

Kassi Massey scored her third goal of the season but the Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team fell to Seattle University 3-1 at CSUB. The Redhawks (6-9-1) scored three goals in the first half . The Roadrunners (4-9-2) wore pink jerseys and the lines on the Main Soccer Field were tinted pink in observation of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Women's cross country

The Cal State Bakersfield women's cross country team finished its 2009 season with a ninth-place effort at the Cal State Northridge Invitational at the Bolboa Park/Sepulveda Basin course in Van Nuys. The race was originally scheduled to be a 6K race but due to the heat index, was shortened to a 5K. Cal State Fullerton took the team title, scoring 53 points to beat USC (61).

Arianna Celis was CSUB's top finisher, placing 23rd in 19 minutes, 4.89 seconds. Casey Glassey was 53rd at 20:19.03. and Judith Mata took 62nd at 20:54.96.

JC cross country

Francisco Mejia finished 31st to lead the Bakersfield College men's cross country team at the Mount SAC Invitational in Walnut. Mejia ran the 4-mile course at Mount San Antonio College in 22 minues, 41 seconds. BC placed 20th.

On the women's side, Emily Leming led BC by finishing 11th at 22:00 on a 2.9-mile course. The Renegades were 25th. Orange Coast won the men's event. Glendale was the women's team winner.

JC women's soccer

Terryn Soelberg scored the lone goal for Bakersfield College in a 2-1 home loss to L.A. Pierce. Brittany Hunt assisted on the goal for the Renegades (6-5-1, 4-1-1 Western State Conference South Division).

JC volleyball

Tracy Lewis had 21 kills and Courtney Dickerson added 15 kills to lead Taft College past Reedley College. 25-11, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18. Taft (8-6, 5-1 Central Valley Conference) also had 29 digs by libero Michelle Hardy. Taft also won Wednesday at West Hills, 25-18, 25-10, 25-18.
