A 57-year-old Oildale woman was cited this week under the "cool parent" law which makes it a misdemeanor to serve alcohol to minors, sheriff's officials confirmed Friday.

Sydney Bearup was cited at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday after deputies found a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy passed out drunk in front of a house in the 300 block of Warren Ave., deputies said.

Bearup was the responsible adult at the home where alcohol was served to underage drinkers, Senior Deputy Michael Whorf said.

The girl was transported to a hospital for treatment while the boy regained consciousness and was released to his parents, he said.

He said he did not know what the teens had been drinking.

Deputies went to the area on a report for a loud party. They found about 15 to 20 young people who scattered as they approached, leaving just the two passed out teens, Whorf said.

Bearup was cited under a 2006 county ordinance -- the city has a similar law -- which makes it a crime to serve alcohol to minors. Those laws came after underage people were killed in crashes after such parties.

Hers is the second known case of that type -- the first was in northeast Bakersfield where a father and his three sons were cited after a party ended with the stabbing of six teens.

The father and one son were fined $1,000 each and two other sons were ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

Bearup was also cited for misdemeanors contributing to the delinquency of minors and child cruelty, Whorf said.

No court date has yet been set.
