Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) invites potential volunteers to attend one of two orientation sessions to be held in Bakersfield next week. The first one will be held noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at Fresno Pacific University, 2nd Floor, 11000 River Run Blvd. The second one will be held noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the CASA Office, 2000 24th St. Learn how you can make a difference in the life of an abused, abandoned or neglected child. Jesus Shack volunteers are needed to help with its Street Teams project 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. Street Teams distribute food, clothing and necessities to the less fortunate. New volunteers are to report to Jesus Shack, 1326 30th St., Building B, at 10 a.m. for orientation before joining other volunteers for general prayer and team assignments. Hoffman Hospice is asking volunteers interested in helping serve the needs of its clients and families to set aside time beginning Sept. 13 for Volunteer In Home training. Training will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings for six weeks. Snacks will be served. Kern Assistive Technology Center (KATC) is looking for assistance to raise awareness of the organization and services in the community. Duties include organizing and writing success stories, scheduling speaking engagements, coordinating with local media, coordinating with a marketing committee to develop brand recognition and implement campaigns through mail, e-mail, social media and in person. Sales associates, cashiers, furniture assemblers and general volunteers are needed. Sales of new and used items are used to raise funds needed to build homes for local families.
