A commission studying the meltdown of the U.S. economy announced Thursday the lineup of people who will testify at its first field hearing -- next Tuesday in Bakersfield.
They include local bankers, real estate professionals, construction executives and others. And the hearing will be held in the Board of Supervisors chambers in the County Administrative Building downtown.
This will be the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission's first hearing outside of Washington, D.C., and New York. The panel, whose vice chairman is former Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Bakersfield, also wants to hear from the general public about how the nation's financial crisis has affected them.
These are the people scheduled to participate:

* Session 3: Residential and community real estate

The last session will give members of the public a chance to speak. Anyone interested needs to request the chance ahead of time online. (See details in box attached).
The commission was created by Congress to investigate the economy's collapse and is due to produce a report on lessons learned by Dec. 15.
The other field hearings are to be held Wednesday in Las Vegas; Sept. 21 in Miami; and Sept. 23 in Sacramento.
