It ended without fanfare. Or surprise. Wednesday evening, the City Council unanimously approved Ken Weir's pick for the planning commission.

No one from the public spoke. From the dais, only Weir commented briefly.

Last year, the councilman incited an unsuccessful recall attempt after trying to dislodge the sitting commissioner a year early.

So it's goodbye Russell Johnson, hello McCoy Dean Haddock.

Haddock, a psychologist, beat out Johnson and two real estate attorneys, Kristin Hagan and Andrew Heglund.

In other business, the council:

Reappointed Murray Tragish to the planning commission.

Unanimously approved a court-ordered environmental report for Bakersfield's hillside ordinance. No one commented.

Approved an agreement with blue and white collar workers deferring raises.

Approved sewer rate increases for industrial users.

Reappointed the mayor's picks for the Redevelopment Agency: public relations professional Larry Pickett and architect Danny Ordiz. Two others, attorney Andrew Heglund and commercial real estate broker Jason Matthews, had also applied.

Appointed Juliana Bernier Dooley and reappointed Patricia Duffel and Susan Stussy, the only applicants for three spots on the Historic Preservation Commission.
