A Bakersfield man on probation is accused of burglarizing two vehicles on Tuesday morning.

Christopher Gregg, 33, was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on suspicion of vehicle burglary, residential burglary, possession of burglar tools and receiving stolen property, according to a Bakersfield Police Department news release.

A police officer contacted Gregg at 9 a.m. as Gregg rode a bike in the 2200 block of South Real Road, the news release said. The officer discovered Gregg was on probation and found a small amount of marijuana, a laptop computer, checks and paperwork in other people’s names in Gregg’s backpack.

Further investigation revealed Gregg had committed two unreported vehicle burglaries earlier in the morning.

The laptop computer, checks and documents were stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 7100 block of Hanover Circle, the news release said. A payroll check under a different name was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in an unsecured residential garage in the 5400 block of Planz Road.

The recovered property was returned to its owners.

Police want to remind the public to lock their vehicles and remove valuables from them and make sure garages are secure.
