Bakersfield Homeless Center is looking for volunteers to help with its "Adopt-a-Family" project for the Christmas season. Individuals or groups can help those in need by providing food and toys to one of the center's families. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 22. Contact Mary, 322-9199, ext. 118, if you can help.

California Living Museum needs volunteers to help at its "Holiday Lights" event from Nov. 29 to Dec. 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. each evening. Twenty-five to 30 volunteers are needed each night to serve as "trail elves" to give directions and assistance to visitors. Ticket takers are also needed each night.

Orientation is at 5 p.m. each evening for new volunteers. Individual volunteers or organizations are welcome to serve one or more nights. All volunteers will receive a pass to return to the event on another evening to see the entire show.

American Lung Association needs warehouse helpers and delivery drivers Dec. 1 and 2 to sort and deliver Christmas poinsettias. Call Janet, 847-4700, to help.

Delano Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers to help with its Christmas Parade Tuesday, Dec. 1. Workers are needed to assist in registering and lining up parade entrants and to help with parade control along the route. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the parade scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Contact the Delano Chamber of Commerce at 725-2518.

CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates for children, will hold a volunteer orientation meeting Saturday, Dec. 5, from noon to 1 p.m. at the CASA office, 2000 24th St. Volunteers are asked to make an 18-month commitment, donating an average of 10-15 hours per month as advocates for abused, abandoned or neglected children.

Jesus Shack needs volunteers to help with its "Kid's Christmas" program. Volunteers are needed to help collect, sort and wrap gifts for distribution to kids from ages 1-12. Wrapping parties are scheduled for Dec. 10 and 11. Another two-day wrapping party will be scheduled if needed. Call Gene or Kelly, 324-0638.

Operation: Soulwinner, Children's Network of Hope needs volunteers to help with all phases of its upcoming Children's Day, Dec. 19. Events for the day include a toy drive, parade, car show, children's program and toy distribution for needy children. The toy drive begins at Sonic, Roberts Lane and Olive Drive, at 8 a.m., with the parade scheduled to leave from that location at 11 a.m. The parade will end at North High School, where the car show and children's program will be held.

Volunteer training is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14, at the Riverdale Village Mobile Home Park banquet hall at 6 p.m. Call Ray at 348-1002 to sign up.

American Legion Post 26 needs three or four volunteers who can help organize toys from 2 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. on Dec. 21 for its annual Christmas party. Call Nathan, 323-5479 or 328-1415, to sign up.

Love, Inc. needs two volunteers per day, Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to noon to help in its clearing house call center. Call center workers gather information to help the clearing house match those in need with others who can meet those needs. Hours and days are flexible. Contact Peni, 325-6838, if you can help.
