A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer was in stable condition Saturday after colliding with a pickup truck on Interstate 5, police said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
LAPD Officer Timothy Kay was headed northbound on I-5 north of the Tejon Summit at an unknown speed when he collided with the left rear of a red 2001 Chevrolet pickup traveling in the No. 2 traffic lane about 6:23 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol.
The collision sent Kay, who lives in Frazier Park, out of control and he was ejected. The officer suffered a broken right arm, minor cuts on his forehead and a major cut on the back of his head, police said.
He was taken to University of Southern California Medical Center via air ambulance.
A CHP officer could not be reached Saturday to comment on whether injuries were sustained by Joel Lopez of Artesia, who was in the pickup.
