The Kern County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is hosting Casino Night, a charity event to be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Petroleum Club, 5060 California Ave.

All proceeds will benefit San Joaquin Community Hospital's Grossman Burn Center. Tickets cost $100 each and will include $500 for gaming money, entertainment, music, prizes and more. Games include Black Jack, Texas Hold 'em, Roulette and Craps.

To purchase tickets contact Joanne Zazueta at 391-7010 or purchase at the door. Tickets can be picked up at KCFD headquarters at 5642 Victor St.

Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to help give working Kern County residents a decent and safe place to live. A special sign-up meeting for volunteers will be held at 6 p.m. March 18 at 5401 California Ave.

Habitat not only needs labor volunteers and donated materials, but also volunteers to be on committees, arrange for food for the builders and to raise money to purchase lumber.

Traditionally, Habitat has built homes, but with the state of the economy, Habitat is working to fix foreclosed homes that are on the market. These homes built for the working poor are sold to families at cost and are financed with no-interest mortgages. For information, attend the meeting or call 861-8449.

The Bakersfield Sports Foundation invites amateur cyclists to participate in the 2010 Amgen Tour of California Stage Five Pre Ride on May 1, when cycling enthusiasts can ride the same course as the pros.

Cyclists can choose from two distances, and the deadline to register is April 29. The entry fee is $100 per rider and includes bus transportation to the chosen starting point, rider support along the route, a commemorative T-shirt and a barbecue meal at the finish line.

Bakersfield College will celebrate its annual Garden Fest to raise money for the college's Environmental Horticulture Gardens from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 24. This year's fest is called Garden Fest Green and Clean to help attendees learn to be Earth friendly.

Some of the day's events will include free seminars on gardening, floral design, cooking, installing water features, pet and plant safety, pet adoptions, a farmer's market, as well as arts and crafts. There are already more than 120 booths scheduled to be on campus.

Admission is free, but some of the activities require a fee to participate. A list of activities can be found at www2.bakersfieldcollege.edu/lono/Garden_Fest_2010.htm.
