American Veterans needs help organizing Veteran's Day Parade entries at their assembly point Wednesday, Nov. 11 and get them ready to march. Call Pat, 319-5019, if you can help.
Jesus Shack will need volunteers to serve on its Street Teams project Saturday, Nov. 14. The Street Teams distribute food, clothing and necessities to the less fortunate areas of Kern County from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. New volunteers are to report to the Jesus Shack, 1326 30th St., Building B, at 10 a.m. for orientation before joining other volunteers for general prayer and team assignments at 10:30 a.m. Call 324-0638 for further information.
Optimal Hospice Care will hold a special weekend hospice volunteer training session from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, for individuals interested in volunteering but find it difficult to attend the weekday training sessions. Ronald McDonald House is looking for a group (or groups) to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for residents who may be at the House that day. Cookie and candy makers are also needed to help prepare for a Christmas Party planned for Dec. 5. Bring your ingredients and supplies to the House and make treats there to give the residents homey holiday smells of baking goodies. Contact Scarlett Sabin, 327-4647, extension 4290, if you can help.
CALM needs volunteers to help with its annual "Holiday Lights" event from Nov. 29 to Dec. 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. each evening. It needs 25 to 30 volunteers each night to serve as "trail elves" to give directions and assistance to those visiting the area.
Ticket takers are also needed each night. Orientation will be held each evening at 5 p.m. for new volunteers. Organizations are welcome to bring a group of their members as volunteers, and will be allowed to set up an information table at CALM while they are there.
Volunteers are welcome to serve one or more nights. All volunteers will receive a pass to return to the event on another evening to see the entire show. Refreshments will also be served. Contact Lana Fain at 871-1822 to sign up.
Home Instead Senior Care is looking for volunteers to help with its annual "Be a Santa to a Senior" program to make the holiday season more memorable for our senior citizens. Collectors and delivery drivers are needed to pick up gifts from vendors and deliver them to the Home Instead storage unit. Wrappers will be needed at Glenwood Gardens Dec. 10 to wrap the gifts beginning at 6 p.m. Please bring holiday paper, tape and scissors with you.
Additional donations of gifts for seniors and holiday wrapping paper, tape and scissors will also be appreciated, and can be dropped off at Home Instead Senior Care, 1234 Chester Ave., Suite 200. Additional delivery drivers will be needed Dec. 17-19 to help deliver the gifts to seniors. Contact Debra or Patty, 321-3235.
H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection FRC is looking for a volunteer to serve as a receptionist every Wednesday. Your help would be needed one Wednesday per month from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; and the other three Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. Training will be required, and training sessions can be arranged to meet the volunteer's schedule. Bakersfield Rescue Mission needs volunteers to help set up and serve breakfast, lunch or dinner seven days a week, for their residents. Breakfast helpers would be needed at 6 a.m.; lunch at 10:30 a.m., and dinner at 4 p.m. Donations of food items are always welcome also. Contact Carol Kimball, 325-0863, to schedule a time.
