Worth Noting in business: Company acquisition, commuting, seminars and more

C&H Testing Service Inc., a oilfield tubing testing company headquartered in Bakersfield for more than 20 years, has been purchased by an Alaskan company.

The acquisition by Aleut Corp. became effective July 1.

TAC, formed in 1972 under terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, is involved in fuel sales, telecommunications, environmental remediation and real estate management.

C&H employs about 30 people, and is active in the Bakersfield and Taft areas.

TAC’s CEO is expected to attend an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at C&H’s headquarters, 6224 Price Way.

Reducing commuter emissions while having fun is the aim of the annual Commute Green in the San Joaquin Challenge, a friendly competition between Valley organizations to encourage ridesharing and other alternative commute methods.

The deadline to register is Thursday. The challenge runs Sept. 14-18Any organization in the Valley air basin is eligible to participate. This includes San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and the Valley air basin portion of Kern.

Commute teams will compete against similar-sized organizations: small (5-20 employees); medium (21-100); and large (more than 100 employees). Winners in each category are awarded prizes and recognition on www.healthyairliving.com.

Mark your calendars and RSVP now for the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce workshop, Preparing Your Business for the Coming Pandemic, set for 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Chamber office, 1725 Eye St.

The Chamber is partnering with the Kern County Health Department to help businesses be prepared for a significant fall outbreak of H1N1. There will be handout kits for attendees and assistance with continuity of operations plans for businesses. 

This workshop is free to Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce members in good standing (dues current), and available to non members for a $30 fee (which will be applied as a credit to any non member company joining the Chamber within 30 days after the workshop.) The State Farm es Para Mí campaign is offering $1,000 grants to public schools and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations tackling important education issues.

The campaign helps empower Latinos to become full participants in American life through increased civic engagement. Ninety-three $1,000 State Farm es Para Mí education grants are being offered nationally.
