Government roundup: Gilmore sets up his own kind of Bakersfield office

The Assembly Speaker's office wouldn't approve a Bakersfield office for him so Assemblyman Danny Gilmore, R-Hanford, will set up a tent office at California and Union avenues every Friday beginning April 17.
The office hours will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Friday until further notice. Either Gilmore or a representative will be there; Gilmore will try to be there as much as possible, his office said.
"Since a large number of my constituency live in Bakersfield, I am going to do my level best to represent them with the resources that I currently have, and no matter what obstacles are in the way," Gilmore said in a news release.
Gilmore's district includes parts of Bakersfield plus Delano, Lamont, Arvin, McFarland, Wasco and Shafter.
FLOREZ TO ANNOUNCE CANDIDACY VIA WEB
Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez, D-Shafter, will formally announce his run for lieutenant governor in 2010 via a live, interactive Web cast Friday.
People can watch it and lob questions at Florez beginning at 2 p.m. at www.deanflorez.com.
"I look forward to taking my message directly to the people I hope to have the opportunity to represent, and getting very real and immediate feedback on their concerns and priorities," Florez said in a news release. "I see this as the first interview for the job of lieutenant governor. I'd be honored to have the voters' support and I'm looking to tell them why."

SUPERVISOR GOES TWITTER-Y
So I just got followed on Twitter by Supervisor Michael Rubio staffer Kim Salas.
And, in a classic Twitter chain reaction, I followed her, her boss and Rubio chief of staff Sergio Reyes.
Let the fun begin.
Rubio's first post, one hour ago: "Great meeting in Fresno. We approved the San Joaquin Valley Blue Print. The plan promotes responsible growth... Positive step forward fo"
Ah, I remember the first time I blasted past my 140 character limit....good times!
Rubio's appearance prompted me to look for other twittering supervisors -- with little success:
* OK. I don't think Supervisor Mike Maggard is on Twitter yet.
The only hit I got was from a wedding singer in Kentucky.....
* Jon McQuiston and Don Maben aren't on Twitter that I can tell.
* Five hits on Ray Watson's name.... I don't think any of them are the Kern County supervisor -- certainly not the Florida business coach or the Ray Watson with a cat as his picture who follows Tila Tequila, Coldplay and Penn Jillette.
