As part of continuing cost-cutting measures, the Rosedale Highway branch of Kern Schools Federal Credit Union has closed to walk-up service but continues to offer drive-through transactions.
Kern's largest financial institution also disclosed this week that it plans to remove some standalone ATMs that are lightly used or obsolete. President and CEO Steve Renock said this would save $314,000 a year.
Earlier this month Kern Schools announced plans to close its Delano branch in early October. Last month the credit union laid off seven employees, including one vice president.
Federal filings show Kern Schools lost $16 million in the first half of this year.
California agriculture revenue decreased to $36.4 billion last year, down 9 percent from $38.4 billion in 2008, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
The decline was due in large part to the poor fortunes of two key sectors. Milk producers earned 34 percent less last year compared with 2008, and hay brought in 44 percent less during the same period.
The commodity with the greatest increase in value was tomatoes, up 15 percent. Grapes rose 12 percent.
