You felt right: Sunday was hot. The 111-degree high beat Bakersfield's old record of 110 set in 1960, said Jim Dudley, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford. Expect triple digits the rest of the week.
Fresno, at 112, was the only Central Valley spot hotter than Bakersfield.
Pine Mountain Club, meanwhile, was drenched with rain for about an hour, pulling down an inch or so as heat sucked up moisture from the south, monsoon-style. Thunderstorms remain likely in mountain and desert areas.
