A gadget containing a small amount of radioactive material was stolen from a car sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The radioactive material is safely contained and sealed within the device, which is called a Density Tester. If left intact, the device does not pose a significant rise to public safety. It would pose significant risk to individuals in the immediate area if the device is damaged and the radioactive material released, police said. Anyone exposed to radioactive material would require immediate medical attention.

The vehicle, owned by a company called Krazan & Associates, was parked by an employee in the 700 block of Deseret Way.

Anyone with information should notify police immediately. If found, leave the device undisturbed and notify police.
