Kern County Museum needs volunteers the week of Jan. 4 to help dismantle and sort Christmas exhibit items that will be sold at its "Nearly Wholesale Sale" on Jan. 9. Call 852-5050 if you can help.

Optimal Hospice Care needs bilingual English/Spanish volunteers to work with patients and their caregivers. Volunteers are needed in the Bakersfield, Frazier Park, Tehachapi, Taft, Shafter, Wasco and Lamont areas. A new volunteer orientation meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Optimal office in Bakersfield. Lunch is provided. Kern Medical Center Auxiliary needs volunteers to work four hours per week in the gift shop and snack bar. Bilingual Spanish/English volunteers are needed for the information desk and family surgery waiting desk. Catholic Charities is looking for volunteers to help bag groceries and clean up the working area when done. Help is also needed to answer phones. Call Andy, 281-2130, for more information.

Bakersfield Homeless Center needs volunteers to help serve lunch at the center on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning at 11 a.m. Volunteers are also needed to supervise the teen room at the center from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., daily. Supervisors must be college age or older. Call Jeri Alvarado, 322-9199.

Love, Inc. needs two volunteers per day, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, to help with the intake process at its clearing house call center. Call center workers gather information to help the clearing house match those in need with others who can meet those needs. Hours and days are flexible. Contact Peni, 325-6838, if you can help.

American Red Cross is looking for office assistance volunteers. Workers are needed to answer phones and take messages, type, file and communicate with volunteers. Contact Jennifer Perfect, 324-6427 for more information.

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection FRC is looking for a volunteer receptionist every Wednesday. Your help would be needed one Wednesday per month from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; and the other three Wednesdays from 1 -4 p.m. Training will be required, and training sessions can be arranged to meet the volunteer's schedule. Bakersfield Rescue Mission needs volunteers to help set up and serve breakfast, lunch or dinner seven days a week for its residents. Breakfast helpers would be needed at 6 a.m.; lunch at 10:30 a.m., and dinner at 4 p.m. Donations of food items are always welcome also. Garden Pathways needs mentors for at-risk adult or youth one-on-one, as a group, or as part of a team. Encourage and guide families and youth who are facing the challenges of poverty and at-risk conditions. Clients include CalWORKS and Child Protective Services participants, emancipating and emancipated foster youth, pregnant and parenting youth, truant youth, other at-risk youth, and gang-impacted youth and families.
