Get ready for traffic delays on Coffee Road, south of Brimhall Road, starting Tuesday.
Nighttime work from 8:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m. will run for several weeks. Shell Oil will be relocating an oil line that runs down the middle of Coffee.
That means:
* The inside northbound lane of Coffee, between Brimhall and the Cross Valley Canal bridge, will be closed 24 hours a day;
* The center northbound lane will be open during daylight hours;
* The outer northbound lane will remain open;
* All southbound lanes will remain open.
The oil line relocation is expected to take 2-3 weeks, according to a release from the Thomas Roads Improvement Program.
Keep in mind that when Shell's work is done, contractors will start building a bridge over Coffee for the Westside Parkway, Bakersfield's new east-west freeway now under construction.
That work will impact the same stretch for a year or so. In general, it will close one lane in either direction.
