The Bakersfield Homeless Center will host its annual Halloween Carnival and Costume Party for children at the center this Saturday. The carnival will feature a “Haunted Warehouse” sponsored by Chevron, as well as carnival booths — a cakewalk, bean bag toss and face painting — and of course candy.

The Homeless Center has provided year round emergency shelter, food, clothing, and supportive services for 26 years, and on average houses 100 children each night. 

The Bakersfield City School District Education Foundation will present a check for nearly $50,000 to BCSD teachers at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the BCSD Board Room, 1300 Baker St.

The BCSD Education Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization. Several grant opportunities are available to BCSD teachers through the Education Foundation.

The foundation raised $49,067 through its four charity fundraisers: a golf tournament, the Teddy Bear Picnic, the Bakersfield Luau, and the Tree of Knowledge.

The Central California Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors and Bakersfield-based Trestles Construction Solutions LLC will host a construction frontline supervisor training program during the second week of November.

Four modules will be delivered 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Nov. 6-9 on topics that include planning and scheduling, labor management, continuous improvement and effective leadership.
