The driver of a pickup truck was critically injured after a head-on collision on Taft Highway Sunday morning, the Bakersfield Police reported.

Officers responded to Taft Highway and Stine Road about 10:15 a.m. where they found the injured man.

He was airlifted to a local hospital.

Officers determined the sedan was headed east on Taft Highway, west of Stine Road, and swerved into the westbound lanes causing a head-on collision with the pickup truck.

It appears alcohol was a contributing factor for the driver of the sedan, according to police.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor for the driver of the pickup.

The 5000 block of Taft Highway was closed during the investigation.
