Former Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall made a surprise donation of $3,500 Monday night to the Arvin Chamber of Commerce to help cover the costs of the Arvin Christmas Parade. Supervisor Leticia Perez also donated $1,500 to the cause.

After hearing that the Arvin Christmas Parade might be canceled after 61 years, Hall reached out to Supervisor Perez to offer his assistance.

Hall, along with Siren the Rescue Dog (Hall Ambulance's mascot), drove in the parade in one of Hall Ambulance’s new paramedic units, said a news release. When he arrived at the announcer’s booth, Hall jumped out of the ambulance with a big check and presented it to Randy Thompson of the Arvin Chamber of Commerce.

"The city of Arvin is very special to Mr. Hall and his company, as it is the second community that Hall Ambulance began providing service to in 1975," said a Hall Ambulance news release.

"He loves everything about Christmas, including serving as the coordinator of the Bakersfield Christmas Parade for 15 years."
