A 5-year-old girl was killed in a car accident on Wednesday and another is in critical condition.

The Bakersfield Police Department said officers were sent to the 500 block of Harris Road at around 1:30 p.m. after getting a report of a vehicle injury in the area. Officers learned that a woman had lost control of her vehicle and hit a woman and a child who were walking on the sidewalk.

The department said the pedestrians both suffered major injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. While the adult is currently in critical condition, the 5-year-old died from her injuries. The driver was also taken to a hospital for treatment due to a medical condition.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The department didn't mention any charges that the driver may face.
