Firefigthers battled a 200 acre fire in the Kern River Canyon just a few miles west of Bodfish Sunday afternoon.

Captain Cary Wright of the Kern County Firefighter said the blaze was located south of Borel Road off of Highway 178 in the Kern River Canyon.

No structures were threatened by the fire, he said.

It was burning in brush and grass and moving at a moderate rate of growth on U.S. Forest Service land when firefighters arrived on scene, Wright said.

Fire crews used air attacks and bulldozers to “get in front of the fire” and keep it from growing.

As of Sunday evening the fire was zero percent contained.
