If life was fair — and so was weather — there's no way Bakersfield would be subjected to another drought year so soon after emerging from one of the worst multiyear dry spells in memory.

But barring a Miracle March or a February that somehow turns wondrously wet, the outlook appears grim.

The City of Bakersfield has noticed, and said so in its general information packet, which comes out each Friday afternoon.

"It has been extremely dry this year in our watershed,” city officials wrote in the packet. "The trend to-date has been worse than the driest year on the history of the river (Fiscal Year 2014-15). Let us hope that we catch a break and get some late season precipitation!"
