Truxtun Avenue will be closed at the Westside Parkway bridge next week for the demolition of barrier rail for the Kern River Bridge Improvements Project, according to the City of Bakersfield.

Truxtun Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. Access to side streets along Truxtun Avenue and the westbound on-ramp to the Westside Parkway will remain open, the city said.

Truxtun Avenue traffic will be detoured to Mohawk Street or Oak Street. Motorists can also avoid the area by using Rosedale Highway, the city said.

Nighttime lane closures on Highway 58 are planned for Sunday through Thursday, according to the city.

The eastbound Highway 58 H Street on-ramp and Chester Street off-ramp will be closed for material deliveries and removals all five days. Two lanes on eastbound 58 between Chester Avenue and Cottonwood Road will also be closed for electrical work.

On Sunday, the northbound and southbound connector ramps from Highway 99 to eastbound Highway 58 will be closed to allow for concrete removal, the city said.

On Monday and Tuesday, the westbound 58 Union Avenue off-ramp will be closed for electrical work. Wednesday will see eastbound Highway 58’s Union Avenue off-ramp closed. The westbound Highway 58 Chester Avenue off-ramp will be closed Thursday.

All closures run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to the city.

The Bakersfield Downtown Business Association will hold its State of the Downtown breakfast on Thursday.

The breakfast runs from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 801 Truxtun Ave. Speakers such as DBA President Melanie Farmer, City Councilman Andrae Gonzales and Downtown Bakersfield Development Corporation Vice-Chair Kevin Bartl will discuss the revitalization of downtown as well as a few downtown projects and programs.

Mayor Karen Goh will also oversee the installation of new officers to the board of directors.
