Kern County’s employment rate stayed steady in November at 7.4 percent, according to a new report from the Employment Development Department.
Bakersfield had a 6.6 percent unemployment rate, a slight decrease from 6.7 percent in October. California City had the highest rate with 15.6 percent in November, according to the report, a slight improvement from 15.8 percent in October.
Ridgecrest had the best rate at 4.6 percent, according to the report.
All other cities and unincorporated areas had no change or very slight change, one direction or the other.
Firehouse Subs delivered 300 sandwiches to people at the Bakersfield Homeless Center earlier this week.
The business also provided cookies and drinks. Mike Kamrani, owner of the Firehouse Subs located in Lebec, organized the event as a way to help people who are less fortunate in Kern County.
The International Education Student Exchange Program is looking for local coordinators to help find host families for the students.
The coordinators would be responsible for interviewing host families and conducting an orientation for them. They would also run orientations with students when they arrive. Local coordinators would also be responsible for planning activities for the students and their host families throughout the year.
The position is a volunteer position, but coordinators will receive a stipend for each student they place.
