The Bakersfield City School District will be providing more details on an agreement with the Bakersfield Police Department for two school resource officers on Thursday.

The two officers who will serve the schools will be announced during a press conference at 10 a.m. at Emerson Middle School, 801 Fourth St. Under the agreement, officers would work through June 30. The city must pay BPD $5,837 every two weeks for the service, according to the agreement.

The Bakersfield Police Department initially announced the agreement during a December City Council meeting.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County is now taking applications for paid summer internships for local teens as part of the Summer Job Program.

In partnership with the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, teens will get workforce and job readiness training from local businesses, with an emphasis this year on those involved in science, technology, engineering and math fields.

Applications are being taken through Feb. 22. Application forms are available at the Armstrong Youth Center and the Stockdale club site, 5207 Young St., Suite 200. Forms can also be found at

Those who are accepted into the program can attend an orientation on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Armstrong Center or the Subaru club site, 7315 Harris Rd.
