September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and so on Friday, Houchin Community Blood Bank will hold a blood drive "in honor of the young warriors fighting for their lives," it said in a news release.

Blood and platelet donors play a major role in helping kids battle cancer, Houchin said. An awareness event will be held at the 5901 Truxtun Ave. and 11515 Bolthouse Drive donor centers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. where donors will receive a gold Childhood Cancer Awareness ribbon and a special gift from staff.

Both donor centers will also be a collection site for knitted or crocheted hats that will be donated to the Children’s Infusion Center at the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center, Houchin said.
