Bakersfield Christian High School will be holding its Colors of Christmas event on Dec. 14.

The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the school, located at 12775 Stockdale Highway. Throughout the campus, there will be live Christmas music, kids’ activities, an art gallery and a drama production featuring a live nativity.

The school bands and choir will perform, along with the Stockdale Christian School jazz band, St. John’s Lutheran School strings, Valley Baptist Children’s Choir and groups from the community.

In the art area, participants will get to see student artwork as well as participate in a student-led art activity. Bakersfield Christian Art Teacher Scott Joseph will also be doing a live painting.

For kids’ activities, there will be cookie decorating, story-reading and a chance to take photos with Santa.

The event will wrap up with all attendees gathering in the middle of campus to sing a carol by candlelight.

During the event, freshly baked sweets will be available for purchase from the Eagle Café and the BCHS alumni will host a hot cocoa bar.

The Downtown Business Association will hold its Casino Holiday Party on Dec. 5.

The event will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Prospect Lounge in the Padre Hotel, located on 18th Street. The event will include a raffle and free pictures with Santa. Appetizers and one drink will be provided by the hotel. There will be a no-host bar.

Cal State Bakersfield will host the Kern Capital Summit on Dec. 6. The summit, to feature workshops aimed at helping small business owners succeed, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the university’s Dore Theater. Workshops will be held on issues such as loans, grants and venture capital. The summit will also include breakfast and lunch.

Tickets are $29 for those who purchase them by Dec. 4. Day-of tickets are $49 per person. Interested students only have to pay $29 regardless of when they’re purchased.

Santa Claus will be giving managers and supervisors some leadership advice this month.

The Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is holding a Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus on Dec. 13. The workshop will be held at the PAS Center at 1401 19th Street Suite 110 from 8-11 a.m.

The workshop will discuss hiring, performance problems, productivity and other issues.
