The California Highway Patrol's annual CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive is underway this morning with a drop-off event taking place downtown Wednesday directly catty-corner from the Padre Hotel.

CHP officers are in The Bakersfield Californian parking lot on the corner of 18th and H streets, and they'll be there until 6 p.m. Wednesday for a toy drop-off event. They're being assisted by employees of The Californian.

Bring your new, unwrapped toys to the southeast corner of 18th and H streets anytime up until 6.

The toy drive has helped families throughout California for more than 25 years by bringing packaged gifts to disadvantaged children in Kern County.

The drive runs through Dec. 18. New, unwrapped toys can also be taken to the CHP office on Compagnoni Street, Motor City (in the Auto Mall), The Bakersfield Californian, United Way on Stockdale Highway, KERO 23 News Station and Carniceria La Carreta locations.

Toys collected will benefit local children from infant to 16 years of age.
