Editorial Page Editor Robert Price is the host of Tuesday's edition of "Californian Radio." He'll discuss the steps taken by the Bakersfield City School District board to address one of the most elusive elements in education: parental involvement.

Last week, the district directed a task force of parents to find ways to better engage families "at every school and in every classroom." Parental participation in the educational process is consistently listed as the No. 1 factor separating good schools from mediocre and poor schools. Changing that dynamic involves significant culture shifts within families and whole neighborhoods. How should the school district approach the issue? Is it a solvable problem?

Price talks to Andrae Gonzales, a trustee with the BCSD, and Blanca Cavazos, chief instructional officer with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office and former principal of Arvin High School. The show airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on KERN-AM 1180.
