Editorial Page Editor Robert Price is the host on Tuesday's edition of "Californian Radio." He'll discuss the unusally high number of pedestrian fatalities we've been seeing in Bakersfield over the past few months.

Many of those deaths have been the result of clearly irresponsible behavior by the pedestrian, but some tragedies could no doubt have been averted had the environment been different. Better lighted streets, perhaps, or longer crossing times allowed in crosswalks. Cities can do a lot of things to make things safer for pedestrians and drivers alike -- so-called traffic-calming features such. Two experts join us: Ryan Starbuck, head of traffic engineering for the city of Bakersfield, and Donna Kunz, director of the city's department of Economic & Community Development.

The show airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on KERN-AM 1180. To call in with a question or comment, dial 842-KERN. To listen to archived shows, visit Bakersfield.com/CalifornianRadio.
