Mark DeRosia has been ousted as the Delano police chief, the City of Delano announced this week.
The city notified police department staff about the change in a memo sent out on Tuesday. No additional information was provided on DeRosia’s abrupt dismissal; the city said is a personnel matter.
Three commanders are set to take over as interim chief for the next few months until a permanent chief can be hired, according to the memo. Raul Alvizo will be chief throughout the rest of November; Lynn Venables will take over in December; and Jerry Nicholson will serve as chief in January.
“I ask that you provide your interim chiefs with your full respect and cooperation during this transition,” City Manager Maribel Reyna said in the memo. “I assure you that every effort will be made to expedite the recruitment process.”
