Carla Musser, the manager of policy, government and public affairs at Chevron, was introduced as chairwoman of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Thursday.
Musser replaces Derek Abbott, the vice president of community development and resource planning at Tejon Ranch Co.
Abbott described his successor as “calm, but fierce.”
“She has this inside knowledge of a major industry in our region, and government relations experience, and the chamber’s key role is advocating for our business community with government,” Abbott said.
Musser spent the majority of her career in human resources, working at Getty and Texaco before starting work in governmental affairs at Chevron for the San Joaquin Valley Business Unit in 2004.
“As a longtime member of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, I am excited to lead the board. The Chamber has been a driving force for our economy,” Musser said, describing the chamber as a “cornerstone,” for the business community.
She’ll serve a term of one year.
