A second Bakersfield appraiser who performed work for the former Crisp & Cole Real Estate company has been accused of wrongdoing by state regulators, who want to revoke or suspend his license.

Michael B. Wood of All Kern Appraisals was served with an accusation this week, according to the state Office of Real Estate Appraisers.

Wood had been a trainee under Kirksey J. “Mark” Newton Jr., owner of San Joaquin Appraisals Inc. in Bakersfield, when he created the reports in question during 2006 and 2007. Newton was served with a state accusation Monday.

Wood did not return messages left at his office Thursday and Friday.

The accusation is being handled by the state Attorney General’s office. It details six counts of creating “misleading and inaccurate” reports involving four properties.

The same properties were included in the accusation against Newton, Wood’s supervisor at the time.

Two of the appraisals in the accusation against Wood had been done for Crisp & Cole’s mortgage arm.

If Wood chooses to defend himself in a court-like setting, the case could go to an administrative hearing. Another option is settlement with regulators.
