RJ’s Bar & Grill, a northwest Bakersfield restaurant, has closed due to “creative differences” between the partners, owner Russell Carter announced Friday.

It could reopen under a new name in the near future.

Originally known as RJ’s at Riverlakes, the eatery first opened in 2002 under the ownership of Carter and his partner, Jason Cox, in what was the rapidly growing Riverlakes area, according to a news release.

Next to a golf course, it became popular with golfers and then drew a loyal lunch crowd that included a lot of oil industry workers.

“Carter and his partner, Cox, have experienced ‘creative differences’ as described by Carter and the two partners decided to part ways,” the news release said. “After much negotiating to try and equitably split the business, the partners were unable to come to an agreement and decided to close the business on the last day of the month.

“Carter is meeting with investors to reorganize and perhaps reopen under a new name in the near future. The restaurant employed 33 workers. All workers were paid their final wages upon closure.”
