The bead store at 610 18th St. is operating under new management and a new name: The Bead Hut. In addition to selling a wide selection of beads made of glass, wood, sterling silver and semi-precious stones, the store offers classes on beading by appointment. Owner and Realtor Susi Klassen purchased the business last year.
Let’s Ride Motorsports, which sells motorcycles, side-by-sides, ATVs and watercraft, has opened at 4401 Ride St. Run by Darren Fulce and Ron Segroves, the independent, family-owned store is not affiliated with any franchise.
Mill Creek Deli is opening at 700 18th St. Brenda Sharp, landlord of the Silver Fox and operator of two successive hair salons over the course of a decades-long career in hairdressing, will operate the 800-square-foot eatery. It will sell sandwiches alongside such Basque staples as pickled tongue, soups, French bread and beans.
Three eateries at the Village at Town Centre, downtown at 24th and L streets, have recently closed. They are Wings to Go, Juice It Up! and Hawaiian BBQ.
The Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, an 82-room hotel, opened at 422 W. Tehachapi Blvd. It is owned and managed as a franchise by Evergreen Hospitality Inc. The hotel features an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool spa, exercise room, free Internet access and complimentary continental breakfasts.
Cherished Memories Memorial Chapel opened at 1701 Westwind Drive. Director Cecil Martin said he will meet families at their homes instead of requiring them to come to the funeral home. Martin also owns a Cherished Memories in Fresno, which does not travel to homes. If the business is successful in Bakersfield, then his Fresno home will also go to families’ homes.
Bright House Networks is selling electronics and other retail products on its Web site. For now, the virtual mall is open to anybody, but at some point shoppers will be restricted to Bright House customers, spokeswoman Colleen Dillaway said. Most products are electronics or the shelving systems that house them.
Extra Innings, an indoor baseball and softball training center, opened at 4820 Rosedale Lane. The 10,000-square-foot facility is a franchise purchased by Bill and Wanda Wagoner and staffed by them, their two teenage sons and several former professional baseball players. The site’s five multi-use training tunnels can be used to practice pitching, batting, fielding, catching or base-running. The business also features a circuit training room and a pro shop.
Produce packaging supplier Cool Pak has opened a facility in Delano, making it the company's first San Joaquin Valley location. The facility at 391 Road 192, off County Line Road, opened July 24 and has six to 12 workers. The business offers recyclable produce packaging, custom labeling and real-time inventory management, among other services.
Donna Stanfield has expanded her business, Words of Art, to offer printed monograms on live flowers. Stanfield partnered with Uniquely Chic Florist and Boutique to do it. Oak Furniture Liquidators closed its store at 3600 Stine Road after being in Bakersfield for 18 years. Four other Oak Furniture Liquidators stores will remain open in Fresno, Hanford, Tulare and Visalia, said District Manager Brandon Mason.
