A Famous Footwear distribution center opened at the foot of The Grapevine. The chain’s owner, St. Louis-based Brown Shoe Co., opened the 350,000-square-foot plant in May.
The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House opened at 420 34th St. on the campus of Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, which donated the building and provided a $25,000 donation to kick off the fundraising campaign.
Packaging design and manufacturing firm Maxco Supply Inc. has opened a distribution facility in Delano. Maxco vacated a leased facility a quarter mile away and moved into a larger, more modern facility it owns at 14095 Avenue 24.
National Health Services, Inc. recently opened a new optometry department, as well as a remodeled behavioral health department, at the Oildale Community Health Center at 525 Roberts Lane.
Ray Morgan Co., which provides document technology solutions, imaging and workflow services, opened a local office at 4415 Yeager Way, Suite 700. The company opened the Bakersfield office after doing business locally for many years.
Mestmaker and Petrey Wealth Advisors, 1675 Chester Ave., Suite 200, opened in January. Co-founder Daniel Petrey said he and partner Jeff Mestmaker used to work for Morgan Stanley, but wanted to also work with smaller clients.
Los Angeles-based apparel retailer Forever 21 Inc. purchased at auction the lease held by bankrupt Gottschalks on the location at Valley Plaza. It plans to open that spot as a Forever 21 store carrying all its brands.
Lift-You-Up make-up studio and spa and The Lounge Barber Shop opened in downtown’s Wall Street alley. Donna Sam, a stylist, opened the 1,200-square-foot business with her son, Matthew, a barber, and her daughter Natasha, a makeup artist.
Village Park Senior Apartments opened at 2300 R St. It has 56 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments.
Carters Machine moved to 1066 Carrier Parkway Ave. in February after outgrowing its previous location. The machining business first opened in 2001, said Barbara Carter, who owns the business with her husband, Jimmy.
U.S. Bank acquired 173 former Downey Savings & Loan locations in Arizona and California, including at 4550 Coffee Road. It has ATMS inside four local Walgreens drug stores.
A Williams-Sonoma customer service center opened at 151 Vultee Ave. in Shafter to assist Internet and catalog customers in California.
John William University is closing its four-year Bakersfield law program and moving to new offices in the same building at 1525 19th St. where it will continue to offer a paralegal certification program.
