Artist Benjamin Victor was a recent visitor to the city of Taft to meet with the Oilworker Monument Committee for a discussion of details on the building of the Oilworker Monument to be located in Taft.

Victor is building the monument to honor those men and women who have worked and are at present time employed in the oil industry. Victor and the committee toured the site where the monument will be erected. The 34-foot monument will be made entirely of bronze.

The monument will be dedicated in October 2010 during the Oildorado celebration, which also marks Taft's 100th birthday.

Victor plans to come to Taft in January to work on the sculptures of the oil workers as part of an Artist in Residence program where schoolchildren and the public can watch the actual sculpturing of the oil worker figures.

To contribute, and for more information, please visit the Web site www.taftofwmonument.org or call the Taft Chamber of Commerce at 765-2165.
