A few days each week, personal caregiver Johnnie Hubbert goes to the homes of patients served by Interim HealthCare.
The 71-year-old can't imagine what the lives of people who need her help would be like without her and other caregivers.
She shared those thoughts with a film crew from cable channel NurseTV, in Bakersfield on Tuesday to shoot a segment for "Home Care Heroes."
Employees were excited that the local office of Interim won a chance to be on NurseTV after they created a video capturing how workers make a difference in the lives of people they serve, said Darlyn Baker, owner of the Bakersfield branch and director of health care services.
The contest suggested branches of Interim HealthCare submit videos depicting their office and include an appearance by the owner of the franchise.
That preview video was scripted by Baker and shot by program developer Tami England at Interim. It showed workers playing "Family Feud" and bingo, along with interviews of employees describing their jobs.
England said a few weeks after the video was submitted in May, Interim HealthCare's corporate office let the Bakersfield branch know it had won the contest. The employees were so excited that Baker held a mock awards show ceremony and everyone received mini statuettes with their names.
The Bakersfield video was chosen from 16 submissions around the country.
For Tuesday's filming for NurseTV the office was decorated with film-related memorabilia and the floor was covered with small Walk of Fame stars for every worker.
Three men were present for the filming. Marc Prescott and Elroy Spatcher from InteReality Media LLC were the interviewer and cameraman, respectively, and Christian Boswell came from an ad agency in Florida, where Interim HealthCare is based.
NurseTV is not available in Bakersfield, but the segment will be on NurseTV's Web site, www.nursetv.com in the near future.
