Bakersfield ranks third in the state as a solar power market, according to solar power company SunRun.

With partner PV Solar Report, San Francisco-based SunRun analyzed California market data for the first eight months of 2011 and found the top five solar markets were San Jose, San Diego, Bakersfield, San Francisco and Fresno.

The top solar cities list is based on the California Solar Initiative's database of residential rebate reservations.

June was the first month in which more Californians opted for third-party owned solar over cash purchases, according to the analysis.

SunRun is one of several companies that offer solar panels for lease. Consumers then pay a fixed monthly fee for the power the panels generate.

Tender Loving Care Home Health Agency recently celebrated its grand opening with the launch of a service it calls "The Bridges Program."

The program is geared toward senior citizens whose incomes disqualify them for In-Home Supportive Services but who cannot afford to pay high hourly rates for home care. Tender Loving Care says it provides qualified, screened, bonded nonmedical caregivers at a discounted hourly rate.

The agency is located at 33 S. Real Road, Suite 3. Its phone number is 832-6681, and its online address is tenderlovingcarehomehealth.com.
