The Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District announced Monday that it achieved a $1.8 million operating profit in the 2008-09 fiscal year. It was the first time since 2001 that the district did not lose money on operations.
The district had net earnings of $3.44 million for the year.
The news comes as voters on Tuesday will consider Measure A, which could allow the district to borrow up to $50 million for the construction of a new hospital.
The district runs a 25-bed hospital in Tehachapi and three clinics in Tehachapi, Mojave and California City.
