Worth noting in business: Kaiser installs Fitness Zone, free carwashes for veterans and more

Kaiser Permanente installed a Fitness Zone at Cecil Avenue Park in Delano on Wednesday.

The Fitness Zone consists of eight pieces of isometric fitness equipment such as leg presses and bench presses, said Kristin Weirather, senior community benefit specialist for Kaiser Permanente of Kern County.

Weirather said the fitness equipment includes bilingual instructional decals, which include information on nutrition and exercise.

All pieces of equipment are powered by people, not electricity or batteries, Weirather said.

The equipment is free to use and is appropriate for a variety of ages and fitness levels.

 

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, all Bakersfield Whitewater Car Wash locations will give a free full service carwash to any veteran or active military personnel.

To receive the free car wash, veterans must provide proof of service in the form of discharge papers (DD214 form), military I.D. or veterans' organization membership card. Vehicles with a POW plate, veterans plate or a military medal/ribbon plate are also valid.

Maria Garcia, administrative assistant at Whitewater Car Wash, said in addition to all Whitewater Car Wash locations, the following will participate: Rainbow Carwash at 3951 Wible Road; 34th Street Carwash, 920 34th St.; Rainforest Carwash, 7301 White Lane; and Waverunner Carwash, 2523 Brundage Lane.

This offer is only valid Nov. 11.

 

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is working with the Salvation Army of Bakersfield to sponsor a food drive at all 44 of its rental locations in the Central Valley from now until Nov. 22,

Donations will benefit families and individuals most affected by high unemployment and poor economic conditions.

Donations should be non-perishable food such as canned soup, canned meats, canned vegetables or fruit, pasta, beans, rice or cereal. Cash and checks are also accepted.

The Kern Council of Governments is seeking outstanding individuals and projects for its 2009 Regional Awards of Merit ceremony, scheduled for March 2010.

The Guild House restaurant in Bakersfield will host "Affair Extraordinaire," a special dining experience, which includes a pre-fixed gourmet five-course meal, on Nov. 1.

The event is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m. Reservations are required. Cost is $100 and includes several wines, tax, gratuities and a tour of The Guild House.

The Guild House is a volunteer-operated restaurant whose proceeds support the Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, a nonprofit mental health facility for children and families.

Karen Sweaney, president-elect of The Guild House, said this event is the first in a series of three dinners. The other two will be in January and March.

The JM's store in Bakersfield was recently awarded a five-star rating certification by BabyProductExperts.com, an association made up of hundreds of infant specialty stores in the United States. The five star rating is the highest available.

Stores that are part of BabyProductExperts.com are mostly locally owned and are selected for service and quality products, according to the Web site's rating criteria. The stores are judged on telephone etiquette, store appearance, associate greeting, product knowledge and customer service.
