Thousands of people walk through a job fair held at the Rabobank Convention Center in Bakersfield on March 13, 2014 hoping to land one of about 3,000 jobs available from 150 employers at the job fair.

More than 70 employers in Kern and Tulare counties are expected to attend a job fair from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Delano’s Cesar E. Chavez High School, 800 Browning Road.

The event, part of Kern County’s JobFest 2016 series, is free and open to the public. Various industries will be represented. Children are not allowed to attend.

People attending an 8 a.m. workshop titled “Be Your Best at Job Fest” will be allowed to meet employers before those who do not show up for the workshop.

Twelve months after one of the biggest names in Kern agriculture changed its name from Roll Global to The Wonderful Co., it announced Wednesday its real estate business, Roll Real Estate, has been renamed — you guessed it — Wonderful Real Estate.

It didn’t stop there. The parent company also said in a news release Wednesday its development unit, Roll Real Estate Development, becomes ... Wonderful Real Estate Development.

There’s more: Roll Properties is now Wonderful Real Estate Management.

“Wonderful Real Estate Development will continue to develop non-farming land, primarily business parks, warehouses and distribution centers in California’s Central Valley,” Wonderful’s release explained. “Wonderful Real Estate Management will remain a property management service provider for over 30 office and industrial real estate properties, located largely in Southern and Central California.”

Wonderful and its affiliates have nearly 7.5 million square feet of real estate holdings, according to the news release.

Having outgrown its former location on Rosedale Highway, tractor supplier Booth Machinery has scheduled a June 24 grand opening of its new location at 19474 Industry Parkway Drive.

The new digs, located off Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road, features 20 service bays equipped with a crane, an indoor showroom, a training facility and a larger parts warehouse than Booth had before.

The grand opening is open to local farmers. Booth said there will be equipment demonstrations, BBQ, beverages and giveaways.

Bakersfield posted the nation’s second-largest rent increase in June, according to a report by apartment information service Abodo.

The city’s 10 percent increase, based on rents charged for single-bedroom apartments, was topped only by Phoenix’s 13 percent hike, Abodo reported. Chicago was third at 8 percent, and Anchorage, Alaska’s 6 percent.

Bakersfield’s average single-bedroom rent went from $626 in May to $688 in June, Abodo reported.
