A woman died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday evening.

The Bakersfield Police Department responded to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at about 6:44 p.m. at the intersection of Baker Street and East California Avenue.

When they arrived, they found a female in the roadway suffering from major injuries, said a BPD news release. She was later pronounced deceased.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, said BPD.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the collision.
