Two men have been arrested and a third suspect remains at large in connection with an armed robbery Monday evening in northeast Bakersfield.
Maurice Hill, 21, and Jose Luis Fernandez, 20, were arrested following a short chase Monday in which they crashed into a signal light pole at Auburn Street and Morning Drive, sheriff's officials said. Hill and Fernandez ran into a field but were captured and booked on suspicion of crimes including robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and participation in a criminal street gang.
The third suspect managed to escape. They're accused of robbing a man walking home Monday evening in the 2700 block of Edwards Avenue.
Around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies received a report of a male hiding in a backyard in the 5100 block of Antares Court, not far from where the two suspects were taken into custody. Deputies responded to the area but could not find the person, who is possibly the third suspect wanted in connection with the robbery.
The person was described as a Hispanic male, 6 feet tall, 240 pounds, wearing a black shirt and dark pants, sheriff's officials said.
